The 16th edition of Marintec South America has a new date: it will be held from August 11 to 13, 2020 at the SulAmerica Convention Center, in Rio de Janeiro. The traditional trade fair for the naval and offshore sectors was scheduled to take place in August 2019. The postponement is a consequence of a corporate change in the organizing company, Navalshore Organização de Eventos, and due to market assessments.
In 2018, UBM, which held controlling interest in Navalshore, was acquired by Informa Exhibitions, both of which are English companies with a global presence in the trade fair and events sector. At the end of last year, Informa Exhibitions and partners Rosângela Vieira and Marcos Godoy Perez began negotiations with a view to the multinational company's exit from the partnership. The negotiations were concluded on March 21.
“Brazil is going through a period of change and the economy is expected to strengthen throughout this year, with positive repercussions in 2020. We strongly believe in the restructuring of the naval sector and the fair is a reference as a business and networking environment. At the conference that will take place in parallel, we want to bring together the main players to discuss the direction of the naval sector and to present new technologies”, says Rosângela Vieira, director of the event.
The new controllers are also editors of Portos e Navios. In fact, this is a return to the origins, as the current partners are the creators of the fair, which had its first edition in 2004, still under the name Navalshore — Naval and Offshore Industry Fair and Conference.
Although the industry has seen a decline in large shipbuilding projects in recent years, it has remained active, and Marintec has been a bellwether for the sector, bringing together companies of all sizes to promote business and showcase new technologies. The niches of tugboat construction, river vessels, maintenance and repair, considered to be perennial, keep the shipbuilding industry active.
The future scenario is virtuous, with the arrival of projects in the military naval industry, pre-salt auctions and the imminence of platform decommissioning projects. Ship parts suppliers have been optimistic and it is estimated that the market will start to heat up by the end of 2019, with a new cycle beginning in 2020.
In 2020, Marintec promises, as in previous years, to maintain its tradition of being the meeting point for the naval industry, with its exhibition of products and services and promotion of sectoral development.
